3 Nutrients We Must Pay Attention To.

The body is made up of 102 minerals. We are going to focus on three (3) in this article because of the importance of having these in the body.

These nutrients are very important to the optimal operation of the body.

They are:

1. Magnesium.

2. Iron

3. Vitamin D

Magnesium

Magnesium is hands down the most essential mineral/nutrient the body requires. It is needed for almost all chemical processes of the body as well as very essential to your nerves and muscles.

Without magnesium, the body cannot absorb any other nutrient. Let’s me hastily note that magnesium regulates blood sugar and blood pressure and a deficiency can lead to heart problems, numbness, kidney problems, osteoporosis, muscle cramps, and spasms, etc...


Best source for Magnesium:

  • Sea Moss

  • Hemp Seed. One handful will provide 47% of

  • Pumpkin Sees. One handful will provide 37 % DV

  • Avocado. A small Avocado will provide 14% of DV

  • Ripe Banana- approximately 3 Bananas will provide 10% DV.

  • Natural Cocoa, otherwise known as Chocolate


Iron

Iron is a very essential nutrient for the body especially that of the Brown Race (Black People). It is the spark plug of the body and is the only nutrient that is magnetic. This brings us to the point that without Iron, the body cannot attract any nutrients for absorption. Iron has the tendency to pull other nutrients into the body such as magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, gold, etc. It is important to note, Vitamin C is necessary for the absorption of iron so be sure to pair iron-rich food

Iron is essential in the making of red blood cells specifically hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a type of protein in red blood cells that picks up and carries oxygen from your lungs to the rest of the body.

Deficiency in iron is classified as anemia, the immune system weakens and the body's defense against diseases is lost; the body is now susceptible to all kinds of diseases such as Diabetes, Osteoporosis,

High Blood Pressure, and many others.


The brain doesn't get enough oxygen when the iron is low and consequently your thinking and memory are also affected.




Best source for iron:

  • Sarsaparilla.

  • Blue Vervain

  • Elderberry

  • Soursop

  • Guaco

  • Blessed Thistle

  • Nettle

  • Burdock Greens

  • Dandelion Roots.

  • Green Leafy Vegetables such as Callaloo, Watercress, Moringa Leaves, Purslane

  • Beans, Peas, and Lentils. One cup will provide between 24- 37% of DV.

  • Sweet Potato. One large potato unpeeled will provide about 18% of DV. Potatoes are also a great source of vitamin C and may yield up to 46% of DV.

  • Blackstrap Molasses. Two tablespoons will offer around 10% of DV

  • Dried Thyme. One teaspoon will offer around 7% of DV

  • Natural Cocoa, otherwise known as Chocolate

Most Brown (often referred to as black) People are deficient in Vitamin D. This is because people no longer expose their bodies to the sun enough to allow the chemical process to take place. People of the Brown Race naturally have sun blockers in the skin and so prolonged exposure is necessary to achieve that which a Caucasian may in 15 mins.


Once the skin is sufficiently exposed to Sun, it sets off a chemical reaction that converts cholesterol into vitamin D3. The blood then carries the vitamin D3 to the liver and the liver converts it, the converted product is then carried into the kidney and the kidney converts it to a substance called calcitriol. Calcitriol is the most accurate term for Vitamin D which is used in almost all metabolic functions. If for whatever reason you are not getting sufficient exposure to Sunlight, you may take it in foods listed below. Also, increase your Iron intake.

Best source for Vitamin D:

1-hour exposure to sunlight in the early morning or the evening. During this period the sun is at its lowest and we are better able to tolerate the rays. Food source high is Vit D are:

  • Mushrooms.

  • Nettle.

  • Sea Moss.

It is interesting to note that Sea Moss otherwise known as Irish Moss contains 92 of the 102 minerals that the body needs in order to survive.
